About the project
Heritage, Tradition, Innovation, Fashion – the book
Can traditional Czech and Moravian textile techniques be used in contemporary fashion design? Alice Klouzková is trying to answer this question in her dissertation work at the Fashion Design Studio at UMPRUM. A series of exhibitions “Heritage, Tradition, Innovation, Fashion” shows that traditional techniques are not destined to perish, but rather that they can exist as a functional component of contemporary fashion design.
Graphic design-wise, we were inspired by the 60s aesthetic – it refers to the graphic design of the magazines “Umění a řemesla” (Arts & Crafts), “Krásná jizba” (Beautiful Room), Věci a lidé (People and Things), as well as the aesthetic of the catalogue cards at the extensive ÚLUV archives. Generously kerned type, cursive, title frames and column typesetting, sometimes set all the way to the edge of the paper.
